Graveyard Dirt Cups are an easy, make-ahead dessert made with the most delicious homemade chocolate mousse, dark chocolate Oreo crumbs, BelVita cookies and some flowers.
These dirt cups are for adults, but you can definitely make them kid friendly by replacing the flowers with gummy worms, bones and/or skulls instead of flowers. Even a gummy hand would be cute! Serve them with some chocolate milk and your kids will love them.
They’re creamy and decadent and look absolutely festive.
WHAT YOU NEED
Chocolate Mousse
Dark chocolate Oreos
Belvita Cookies
Brown Icing
Fresh Flowers
HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE MOUSSE
This is the easiest and most delicious chocolate mousse you will ever eat. It’s made with heavy cream, whole milk, powdered sugar, salt, vanilla extract and chocolate chips.
HOW TO MAKE THE MOUSSE
Mix together the chocolate, and salt in a medium bowl.
Heat milk on stovetop until steaming and pour over the chocolate. Let sit for 2-3 minutes, then stir until combined and smooth. Allow to cool fully.
In another medium bowl, whip the cream, sugar, and vanilla with an electric mixer until soft peaks form, about 3-4 minutes. Gently fold into the cooled melted chocolate.
Divide mixture into ramekins leaving about 1/3 from the top for your Oreo cookie crumble. Refrigerate overnight or at least 4 hours. I used THESE 4 ounce ramekins.
CRUSHED OREO COOKIES
Crush a ½ package of dark chocolate Oreos using a food processor or blender. If you don’t have either, just add a bunch to a ziplock bag and smack it with the back of a spoon.
DIY COOKIE TOMBSTONES
To create the cookie tombstones to go in the chocolate dirt cups, we used Belvita cookies. They’re perfect for this purpose because they’re thin, crispy and have a nice design.
Cut each cookie ¾ of the way down before writing RIP on each. Set them aside and allow them to dry for about 15 min. I used THIS pre filled cookie icing bag with chocolate frosting.
ASSEMBLING DIRT CUPS
Remove ramekins from fridge.
Add a nice layer of crumbled Oreos over the top each ramekin.
Carefully wiggle the tombstone into each.
Add some small little flowers to the Oreo dirt.
Serve with a mini gold shovel spoon. We just adore THESE and they are perfect for a dirt cup dessert!
TIPS
To save time, crush the oreos the night before and store them in an air tight container.
Wait to assemble them the day of the party so that the cookies are as fresh as possible.
These dirt cups are charming with just the right amount of “spookiness” to them. They will be a sure fire hit at your next Halloween party.

Notes
Make sure to wait until the chocolate is fully melted by the hot milk, otherwise you might get lumps in your mousse.
Let the chocolate mixture cool fullybefore you start to stir in the whipped cream, otherwise the whipped cream will start to turn back into a liquid and won’t set properly once chilled.
Fold the whipped cream mixtureinto the melted chocolate, instead of stirring, to maintain the airiness and eliminate it being runny.
